First Walk Around Your Home and Look

Your first step to saving energy is to improve the insulation of your home. And the easiest thing to do is seal any air leaks
  • Walk around, look for holes in basements, attics and crawlspaces.
  • Check that all windows are intact and that you can close them tightly.
  • Look for small cracks and gaps around windows and doors.
  • Feel for drafts in all these areas, plus around the edges of electrical outlets.
Then seal the leaks with any of a number of products, such as caulk, spray foam and weather stripping, available at any hardware or home improvement store.

All this may take just an hour or two, but you can make a noticeable difference in your energy use and your comfort by doing just these simple things.
